From the parking lot of the Col Rodella cable car, cross the rio Duron through the village of Campitello, which soon becomes a dirty road entering the initial stretch of the Val Duròn, in a shady forest.
You will soon reach a bridge over the Rio Duròn, after which the road sudden rises (Lesta), and you start climbing the left side of the valley.
With a steep climb, the road follows for a long time the edge of the deep gorge of the stream, with beautiful glimpses on a succession of sparkling waterfalls. Behind us, among the wooded hills, the bold shape of the Gran Vernel (3210 m) appears. After the road decreases its steepness, you reach Fraines and the valley extends a bit more on grassy trails. At the second bridge the road starts to get steep again.
Once in Sofos, the road goes past a wooded hillside and reaches a very open area rich in pastures where the beautiful building of the Micheluzzi refuge stands.
Splendid views over the valley on the Catinaccio, the Sciliar, the Molignon, the Teeth of Terra Rossa and the Sasso Piatto mountains.
After tasting a typical dish in our shelter, you can relax on the deck chairs or walking around the valley to the very end in a spectacular clearing.
Descent: being well-equipped, very useful are the telescopic sticks especially for the descent by walk. You can also reach Campitello by taxi-off-road service (private service).
This route is also ideal for mountain biking.
