Description

This fantastic trekking-ring develops starts from the massive Sassolungo and Sassopiatto along the Friedrich August Weg (no.557), in a series of breathtaking views over Marmolada, Sella, Ciavazes, Sass Pordoi and the Siusi alp.

The route is quite simple as it gains altitude with the Col Rodella cablecar (Campitello di Fassa) allowing you to walk on the highest point of the day at 2396 m. However, the path is long enough and requires some muscular workout to safely face the beautiful descent which connects the Sassopiatto hut with the Micheluzzi refuge in Duron Valley. From here you can walk back along a forest road or by using a convenient jeep-shuttle service.

From Campitello di Fassa get  a ride with the cable car Col Rodella. From the upstream station you will descend briefly along the forest road north along the path no. 529.

You quickly reach the Rodella Fork (2311 m), where you can start to follow the Friedrich August Weg, path no. 557 on the left.

Passing through the Friedrich August hut, the path goes westward, climbing the feet of the imposing massifs of Sassolungo and Sassopiatto, two real masterpieces of nature.

The trail winds up on a flat ground along the green slopes overlooking the Duron Valey, which is almost a thousand feet down. The views are beautiful and embrace the north side of Marmolada, the Sella group and the Antermoia chain.

You reach the striking Pertini hut (2300 m) where you can admire the pillars of Torre Innerkofler and Zahnkofel.

Find a passage through the slopes and reach the Sasso Piatto hut (2305 m) below the characteristic southern face of the Sasso Piatto mountain.

After a proper break, take the narrow road that leads east to the visible Malga Sasso Piatto (2249 m). After crossing the mountain pasture, turn right downhill (south direction) on path no.533. The path remains on the orographic left of the valley marked by the Ruf (river) de Pegna.

Descending about 400 m downhill, you reach the Micheluzzi hut (1855 m) in Duron Valley. A beautiful relaxing expanse develops behind the shelter which is situated in a really enchanting place.

From the shelter you leave shortly left along the forest and immediately take a bridge that allows you to move on the right orographic side of the valley.

Walking down the mule track you connect with the Duron Valley off-road which must be followed until reaching the Micheluzzi hut. Then you can decide to go down to Campitello using the off-road, but we recommend the trail in the woods to avoid car traffic. You can also return to Campitello with taxi-off-road service (private service).
