Arriving at the Rifugio Re Alberto 1st, starting from the Gardeccia, is a wonderful day out in front of the most famous peaks of the Dolomites.
Starting from the Gardeccia hut, the first half of the path (path no. 546) winds onto a comfortable offroad to the Vajolet refuge (mt 2243) - about 1 hour.
The scenery during the walking is simply breathtaking, the South wall of the Rosengarten peak, the Larséch crags and the majestic Kesselkogel in the background.
The second part (path no. 542) winds up on a mixed route of rock and gravel: the most challenging passages are supported by a convenient iron rope which allows everyone (adults and children) to overcome them safely.
There are not particularly exposed passages and an additional equipment is not required.
The trail takes about 60 minutes.
The uphill effort is definitely rewarded by the breathtaking view that can be seen from the terrace of the hut: the Vajolet towers which stand high above the Gartl basin. You can almost reach out and touch them! Everything surrounded by King Laurin crags and the Rosengarten North face.
It is recommended to pay attention in case of wet rock and to follow the marked path well to avoid dropping rocks on other hikers engaged in the ascent.
