Crossing of the Croda del Maglio

The most challenging route to reach the Monte Cavone Refuge includes the crossing of the Croda del Maglio ridge. Starting point for the excursion is the Bagni di Lavina Bianca car park (free) in Tires (1,180 m).

The itinerary begins with the steep ascent along the path n.2 in the Orsara gorge up to the Sella Cavaccio (2,070 m).

The following stretch, path n.9 towards Croda del Maglio - Cavone, requires safe pace and absence of vertigo. The route varies from stretch to stretch and offers breathtaking views, touching the peaks of Mezzodì, Monte Nicola and Croda del Maglio, until you reach the Monte Cavone Refuge.

At the end of a refreshing stop at the refuge, the descent takes place along the paths n.4 - 4A up to the Bagni di Lavina Bianca car park.
